Maine Doe

Posted by admin

I just found this picture and I think it was taken in 2008. It’s a nice Maine doe that was standing on the side of the road just down below our camp. Right now I am getting ready to do some deer hunting in Maine next week, only have a few days off but hopefully that is enough. If I am not able to harvest any deer this year in Maine, I hope someone can. One so far in MA, and at least we can say that. Although I am really excited to go coyote hunting again. Night hunting starts up again December 15th but I may not be hunting again until January sometime. Hope we have success this year during firearms season and good luck to everyone else, and we would love to hear how your season went. Just stop by our blog page and post below our entries and thanks for stopping by.

So Alex was not in Maine but was hunting in MA today and was able to harvest the first deer of the season with his new bow. From what I hear it was a nice spikehorn deer which is a male deer with a single antler. Any deer we can harvest is a success in our book, as we do not have the luxury of picking from a large population of mature bucks. I am sure he will share how this hunt went down and we will post some pictures as soon as we can.

Hunting Hunting Hunting

Just got back to Maine and hoping to do some coyote hunting tomorrow afternoon. At a minimum take out the jeep and try to spot some, of course the guns will be with me as well. I finally have some colder weather to hunt in which is a plus, but I hope my stupid cold won’t give me away. Also have to start wearing some blaze orange but only headwear until firearms season on deer starts, then I will have to add the vest. Below I have added a picture of an area we hunted over the summer so you can see what type of terrain is around us. This area has grown up quite quickly already since we first discovered it in the spring. Well I look forward to tomorrow and will post how the day turns out.

Deer Season 2009!

Posted by admin

Deer season 2009 is almost upon us. Its hard to believe another year has gone by and its time to start cleaning the rifles and brushing up on our hunting skills again. Today I set up my climbing tree stand on a piece of State owned land that abuts a nice field. Bow season in Ma opens next Monday and I can’t wait. The area where I have set up is in the back corner of a wildlife piece that abuts private land. We have been seeing deer in the field all summer long and for the past two weeks we have been seeing a real nice buck, he is either a 8 or a real large 6 pointer with a big body. The area that the stand has been placed is the area that the deer seem to run back to every time a car stops on the adjacent road. I will let you know how opening day of bow season goes and if things work out well I hope to get some video of the deer possibly with Dave’s help.
