It’s November and the deer are moving. This year, unlike years past, I have decided to move with them. To facilitate this, I obtained a pack-in deer blind. Since I don’t know how successful my tactic is going to be this year, I decide to borrow one instead of outright purchase it.


What can be said about the Kowa Company’s Genesis 33 binoculars other than “wow”? I am the first to admit that before I had a chance to talk with Kowa representatives about field testing a set of their binoculars, I really had no idea the company even existed.


Deer season for many is simply a holiday that doesn’t land on a typical calendar or give you a free day off away from work. Hunters anticipate this time of year so much that we plan for it throughout the summer, buying gear and prepping for when the season is finally upon us.


My opportunity to review this product couldn’t have come at a better time: I was just about to depart on our yearly week-long family hunting trip up in Northern Maine, and I hadn’t cleaned my gun thoroughly since January.


I have to admit—and I feel like I should lead with this—that I’ve never sharpened a knife before. Sure, I’ve had the same hunting knife for the last six years or so (a birthday present), and don’t get me wrong I love the thing almost as much as my rifle, but maybe I have been a tad naïve in assuming that it would stay razor sharp after the years of cutting limbs in the brush, cutting wedges of cheese for lunch in the field, and skinning deer.
