Maine Moose Lottery Applications Available

Since you’re already sitting on a computer reading this article, then you should take a moment to open up the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website and fill out your application for the moose hunting lottery.

Applications for this year’s lottery are now available here. The deadline for online applications is 11:59 p.m. May 13.

If you can’t use your computer to fill out the application, or you know someone who is unable to, then there are only a handful of other options since the Maine Fish and Wildlife offices no longer prints or mails paper applications.

Those who have to use other means than a computer can pick up the February issue of The Maine Sportsman or Northwoods Sporting Journal. The paper application is printed on page two of the Sportsman and on the back cover of Northwoods.

In addition, a paper application can be printed off of the website and filled out and mailed in with the payment. The address is: 248 State Street, Augusta, ME 04333.

The final way to get a paper application is by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the department and staff there will mail an application back. The address is:

Moose Permit Application Request
Main Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife
41 SHS, 284 State Street
Augusta, ME 04333-0041

Remember that paper applications have an earlier deadline than those filled out online. All paper applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the Augusta office by 5 p.m. on April 1.

This year, there will be 3,205 permits allocated for Maine’s 28 Wildlife Management Districts, which are commonly referred to as WMDs. This marks an increase of 65 permits as compared to last year. Season dates for each Wildlife Management Districts are available on the department website.

The 2011 Maine Moose Permit Lottery will be held in mid-June at Cabela’s in Scarborough. The date and time will be announced closer to the event.
